This is the history of No 600 (City of London) Squadron, Royal Auxiliary Air Force from when they formed in 1925 to their disbandment in 1957.

Initially the squadron comprised gentlemen from institutions in the City, who combined their passion for aviation with their intent to serve their country. Indeed, these auxiliaries, who trained only at weekends, achieved a standard of efficiency which was the envy of regular RAF squadrons. 600 became a night fighter squadron in 1940. Its pilots saw combat in the Battle of Britain, North Africa and Malta, becoming the highest scoring allied night fighter squadron of the war.

Disbanded in 1945 it was reformed a year later under Squadron Leader Hayes to become a day fighter squadron, flying Spitfires and Gloster Meteors until it was finally disbanded in 1957. Appendices include Roll of Honour, technical information, various rolls and statistics and list of squadron members who flew during the Battle of Britain.
