who founded the Alpine Fighter Collection and the Warbirds Over Wanaka Airshow
Reed First edition 2000. 144 pages, octavo, and well illustrated with photographs, many in colour. Tim Wallis contributed the Foreword.
Near Fine condition soft cover book. Two of Sir Tim’s business cards are attached to the inside front cover of the book. Pete Brothers has made a handwritten correction to one of the captions depicting a 32 Squadron pilot whom he would have known.
This is a record of the history and restoration of Hawker Hurricane P3351 which was a Battle of France (73 Squadron) & Battle of Britain (32 Squadron) veteran. It also flew with 71 Eagle Squadron before being sent to Murmansk in 1942 where it was shot down and lay undisturbed in the tundra until its discovery and recovery in 1992. It was meticulously restored and returned to flight in 2000, sixty years after its first flight.
Belonging to Sir Tim Wallis’ Alpine Fighter Collection based at Wanaka in New Zealand, this is a well researched and documented story of an aeroplane, its combat career, its pilots and its return to flight. Simply fascinating!
